Thank you so much for the motel info. It helped a lot since I just reserved all our rooms except for Roswell. I'm going to call the Motel 6 in Roswell tomorrow. My mom and I have decided to hook up with you guys in Tulsa instead of St Louis to save money. Maybe next year we can do more. Thanks again!

Hi Richard and Lyn,

Meet us at the motel 6 listed on the itinerary or keep in touch through this blog and we will post routes and exchange cell phone numbers as the tour gets closer.

I'll add you to the participents list. Welcome to the Tour!!! It is going to be very fun.

Hi Liz and Lisa,

Sorry I did not answer - must have slipped by me!
We are leaving St. Louis on June 26th and driving to Tulsa OK. It looks like to me that Springfield is about half way. Do not know Jerry's plans exactly, but maybe we could arrange a lunch stop somewhere close. I intend to exchange cell phone numbers a little closer to the tour so we can communicate during our trip. Maybe jerry knows where and h
when we will be in or near Springfield?

I have a question about the start of the Route 66 portion in Chicago. You are staying at a Motel 6 in Joliet, Ill. Are you backtracking to the official start of Route 66 the morning after staying in Joliet? Or are you going to be doing that portion of Route 66 prior to the stay in Joliet?

If you're officially starting Route 66 before staying in Joliet, do you have any idea what time you'll be doing that?

Due to time and budget considerations, we'll probably be traveling east on our own and meeting up with you in Chicago instead of Reno like I had originally hoped. So this information would be helpful so we can plan to be with you at the official Route 66 starting point.

Funkeycamper,
That is a great name for a tour participant!
The Route 66 East portion is being planned by Jerry O' Hara. I am pretty sure he is planning on starting at the very start of Route 66 so we can say we went the whole way. I believe we are staying in Joliet because there are a few NB lovers that we are meeting up with on June 24th that live on that side of Chicago. I believe that group is panning the time around Chicago.

I do not know exactly what times we will be anywhere, just vagaries as "in the morning" or "in the evening". We will be exchanging cell phone numbers as it gets closer and Susan Hester has volunteered to be the telephone operator and be the central comunication link while we are out on the route. I think we will be starting each day pretty early - around 8:00 or so each day so breakfass need to be done by then, but no real rules.

There are a few West coasters that are leaving early or late and are planning on meeting the group either in Columbus, Auburn Hills, or Chicago.

Hey Cueball,

This is Judy, as in Judy & Bilbo.

It would be nice to have some idea soon. If the official start of the Route 66 tour will start during the daytime prior to staying in Joliet, we will have to leave at least Washington state at least 1/2 day earlier than we are currently planning. We really can't wait until the last minute to make these arrangements.

It would be nice to meet up with you when you get to Chicago so we can participate in the activities with the Chicago NB group, too. It seems like a time and location for this should be something that can be announced well ahead of time.

Hope to hear more soon!

Take care, Judy

The "official" East leg of the Route 66 Tour will start in the morning of June 25th. We will drive back up to Chicago from Joliet and start from the start. Not exactly sure when we will be at the start, but will probably leave Juliet around 8:00 in the morning.

In the spirit of being spontaneous and very loose rules we are still trying to stay very flexible during the day. The only thing we know for sure is that we will leave from the hotel around 8:00 each morning and arrive at the next hotel some time in the evening of the advertised day. During the day we are trying to be pretty flexible and, unless there is something really spectacular to see or eat at, we will be very flexible for the lunch stops. No real set itinerary during the days.

We are still talking with VWoA on what time to come to the headquarters. We are hoping to have them provide lunch. We are working with Lynn Anderson on just how many are going to show up and then get back in contact with VWoA at the start of May to make final arrangements. Lynn is getting a number of air and water cooled VW clubs to join us in and around Auburn Hills on June 23rd. Lisa Herr and Lynn are planning that day and the next- Auburn Hills to Chicago. They are hoping to have several local people join us along the Yipsilanti Automobile Heritage Highway, but plans have not been solidified yet. So, we are not sure when we are getting into Chicago. The GLNBC is trying to plan what we do once we get there, but we know there is a VW event taking place that week end.

Susan Hester has volunteered to help us out with communications on the road and we will (somehow) exchange cell phone numbers as time draws nearer. You will be able to call Susan and find out our current plans and whereabouts at any time. At least that is the plan.

Sorry I do not have firmer plans.

Thanks. That helps a lot. Now I know that as long as we are at the Motel 6 in Joliet on 6/24, that we'll be able to meet up with you for the Route 66 leg. That's a big help in my planning my trip east. Thanks again!

Hi Magu 66 and gang,

Great, you need to get reservations in the Joliet motel 6 as they are filling up pretty fast (if that is where you are planning to stay).

Are you guys and gals signed up on our roster list? Please give me an e-mail with names and where you are from and I'll add you if not. My e-mail is floozy@verizon.net.

I would like to hook up with anyone who has a TDI and is going to use Biodiesel or SVO on this trip. I haven't cobverted for SVO yet, but would like to learn all I can from you....wondering where Biodiesel is available along the way. I'll be coming down from Minneapolis.
